Home Learning Overview
Students in MFL at Toot Hill are set weekly home learning consisting of a mixture of vocabulary revision and recall, comprehension work and practice around production of language. In the majority of cases, this will be set from the home learning booklets which have been created by the department to supplement and support the content taught in school throughout each learning cycle. They will also have vocabulary to learn - from Knowlegde Organisers in years 7 and 8, and set core knowledge in years 9 and 10 (with a GCSE focus in year 11).
In line with research, we advise that students complete their home learning in regular chunks of 10-15minutes, as the frequency of re-visiting and recall enables more language to be retained in long term memory. This would therefore be 3 or 4 sessions of independent study each week, to ensure that students accrue the right range and breadth of language over time to develop into successful linguists.
All home learning booklets are printed for students and distributed at the beginning of each learning cycle, and Quizlet sets are also available to support vocabulary revision. Copies are available electronically as well, and staff are happy to support where unecessary to ensure that students can access their home learning in a positive way.
