Big Draw Competition 2021

Throughout October we are hosting a Big Draw competition in the Learning Lounge. To celebrate the book gifted to Year 7, Cardboard Cowboys, we want you to write a Haiku about homelessness and then decorate your Haiku. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! We will also be giving away some smaller prizes for those honorable mentions. Every entry will also receive 10 credit points.

So get drawing! We are now accepting submissions from all year groups and the closing date is on the 1st of November.

Struggling to write a Haiku? Here is a quick guide to help:

There are only three lines, totaling 17 syllables. (Syllables meaning sounds, so the word 'Learning' would contain 2 syllables as the word contains 2 sounds, 'Lear' and then 'Ning'.)

  • The structure of a Haiku is as follows:

-The first line is 5 syllables.

-The second line is 7 syllables.

-The third line is 5 syllables like the first.

Here is an example of a Haiku, written by Ms Marris,

Homeless; sleeping rough.

Hard pavement or shop doorway.

And it's raining now!
