Royal Navy helicopter lands at Toot Hill

On Wednesday 6 March, Toot Hill received a visit from the Royal Navy when they landed a Merlin helicopter on the school sports field.

Toot Hill was invited by the Navy as one of a small, select group to receive a visit from their Merlin helicopter, attached to 820 Naval Air Squadron, as part of a recruitment campaign. The campaign is intended to showcase the wealth of opportunities offered by the Navy to pupils who may have aspirations for a future career in the armed forces.

The grey Merlin Mk2 helicopter and its crew touched down on the Toot Hill sports field at 9.15am, watched by a crowd of pupils, staff and local residents.

The crew gave pupils and staff the chance to undertake a supervised tour of the helicopter inside and out (including the cockpit), before delivering a presentation to a select number of pupils and the school’s army and air cadet units.

Pupils across all year groups had the opportunity to view the helicopter during their morning break times, and talk with the Navy personnel who attended with the aircraft.

The school would like to thank the Royal Navy and the crew of 820 Naval Air Squadron for this fantastic opportunity offered to the school and its pupils.
