Year 11 Student leading the way for climate change and green growth
Toot Hill Student Jasmine Adams took part in the YPGGA - Young People’s Green Growth Assembly earlier in March. The event runs in partner ship with The Midlands Engine, which runs the event to build upon the momentum of COP26. During the event, there were several keynote speakers and creative showcases from youth arts organisations across the Midlands, including music and performance, inspired by the event’s themes of climate change and green growth.
The YPGGA will be led by 30 ‘Green Growth Champions’, and we were extremely proud to have Jasmine Adams from Year 11 there as Green Growth Champions.
Together the 30 Champions collaborated to co-design a series of interactive sessions. These sessions were led by the GGCs throughout the day, posing questions to green growth leaders in the Midlands. The three sessions were Nature, Transport and Fashion. The Champions presented on stage some ideas on how we can all contribute to making a greener and cleaner future for all.
With an audience of universities, government bodies, businesses, industry and environmental organisations, the Assembly provided a platform for the regional Green Growth Champions to contribute to and influence the green growth ambitions of the Midlands.
Fiona Farmer (Careers Leader) was in attendance to support Jasmine and was extremely impressed and proud with the work Jasmine, and the other Champions had been doing.
“Jasmine's presenting skills were excellent and she came across as a confident Leader.”
Jasmine is a keen environmentalist and is leading the way to make Toot Hill a greener place. She has been involved in how we can make School a greener and cleaner space and has some ideas. I believe she has been speaking to Catering about having 1-2 days per week that have a vegetarian menu as a way of reducing the consumption of meat.
Sir John Peace, Chairman for Midlands Engine added, “Our region is already at the forefront of delivering world-leading low carbon innovation. The Midlands Engine Young People’s Green Growth Assembly has demonstrated the huge appetite, of our Midlands Engine partners and our region’s young people, to go even further and take steps right now to shape a greener, cleaner and better future.
“The Assembly has been a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from the future of our region - our future workforce, our future parents and carers, our future business owners, our future leaders. It’s our responsibility to give them the best chance to deal with the challenges we all face as a global community.
“Here in the Midlands, we’ve worked together - Midlands Engine partners from right across our region, from the public and private sector, from industry, from our universities - to create our Ten Point Plan for Green Growth. The discussions we’ve had here today will be essential to inform how we mobilise and deliver this plan - a vital milestone in our region’s journey to net zero.”
We are extremely proud of the work Jasmine is involved in and we can’t wait to see where she heads next.
