Toot Hill College secures best ever A-Level results
Toot Hill College has secured its best ever A-Level results sending a record number of students to university. Over 100 students received their required grades to enter further education, an increase of over 25% on 2012.
Today’s results also saw a 100% pass rate, with students on average achieving an increase of two grade boundaries compared to last year. 86% of all grades achieved were A*-C, with 29 students attaining outstanding achievement’ (AAB grades, or higher), furthering the excellent reputation of the school, situated in Bingham, Nottinghamshire.
John Tomasevic, Executive Head Teacher, stated:
“Every year represents a challenge for A-Level students and our College. The competition for university places is very severe. Consequently, we are delighted for so many of our students who have achieved so well under this intense pressure. They are now able to secure the many opportunities in the wider world and secure glittering prizes in life. They deserve every congratulations and we wish them every success for the future.”
He added: “A special thank you goes to the dedicated staff who gave of their time to help support each and every student, along with the emotional support provided by the parents and carers of our students.”
Amongst those celebrating success is Ruth Mitchell, 18, from Bingham, who will be studying Law at Cambridge University after receiving A* (History) A* (Sociology) A (English) A (Law) grades. She stated:
“I’ve had so much support from all the members of the senior leadership team and all of my teachers, I couldn’t have asked for anything else.”
“Mr Tomasevic said to me two years ago with my GCSEs that I could have gone anywhere with them, and I did. They’ve really done it for me, Mr Tomasevic and Mr Taylor and Mrs Need and all my other teachers, I couldn’t have done it without them. But I worked hard!”
Ruth spoke very positively of her experience at Toot Hill College, having also attended Toot Hill School:
“There’s a change, it’s more independent. It’s like going to a normal college with all the freedom, but you have an extra support system and everyone knows you.”
Fellow student Alfie Flewitt, 18, from Aslockton, received A* (Economics) A (Maths) A (English Literature) grades but has planned a different path, choosing to travel to the Dominican Republic in January to teach English through the charity Project Trust. Of his decision, he stated:
“I didn’t want to rush straight from education to education. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, so I thought I’d give myself the year to plan things. I found about the work of the charity Project Trust and really wanted to become involved.”
“I had to apply to work for the charity in the Dominican Republic when I was 16. I was offered lots of support from Toot Hill College, particularly with fundraising and supporting my decision not to apply for university this year. They’ll be helping me when I apply for university in October.”
Karen Strachan, Head of College, said:
“It’s fantastic to see so many of our students achieve these outstanding grades, and pushing themselves to the best of their abilities. At Toot Hill College, we strive to bring out the potential in every student, catering for their needs and offering them one-to-one support through individual mentors to provide them with the best higher education and prepare them for university. The students have worked incredibly hard to earn their places, and it’s a testament to their efforts and the efforts of the staff that this is reflected in the results.”
