GCSE Course Content
SCIENCE GCSE
Students are set according to their ability at the start of year 9; top sets will follow the New AQA separate science (Triple) specifications which will result in a GCSE in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Year 11, all other sets will follow the New AQA Trilogy specification which is a dual award course resulting in two GCSE science grades at the end of Year 11. All GCSE courses are now linear and have no coursework/controlled assessment components.
Biology course content
The Biology GCSE Course for both Triple and Trilogy is divided into 7 main themes.
- Cell Biology
- Organisation
- Infection and Response
- Bioenergetics
- Homeostasis and Response
- Variation and Evolution
- Ecology
Students on the Triple course will complete 10 Biology required practicals during the 3 years. Students of the Trilogy course will complete 7 Biology required practicals.
Students will sit an end of topic test every half term during Year 9,10 and 11 as well as 2 formal internal assessments throughout the year.
Biology year 11 Assessments
Students on Triple and Trilogy will sit 2 Biology papers at the end of Year 11.
