Another busy week for Year 7, it has been great to pop into a variety of lessons this week and see the amazing learning and new things you are doing.
Miss Marshall really enjoyed visiting Year 7 in Food Technology to see students making meatballs! She said it smelt amazing and we hope parents got to try some of these, if they lasted long enough to get home!! Students are enjoying their new music rotation and it is great to see their growing confidence trying these new instruments and skills!
Miss Barker visited some excellent geography lessons and was so impressed by your high levels of focus and engagement. She also recently visited a 7S English class and saw some fantastic written work about A Midsummer’s Night Dream for a written assessment.
Last week students had a really exciting end to the week celebrating Red Nose Day, wearing their own clothes, to raise money for this charity. It was fantastic to see so many of Year 7 wearing something RED and donating to such a worthy cause.
We have a very exciting week next week with the STEM roadshow on Monday afternoon and our Easter achievement assembly at the end of the week.
At the moment, 7.6 are steaming ahead with the most credits, with several members of the tutor set taking top spot for individual credits, as well as being placed TOP of the year group as a tutor set too. Fantastic work 7.6… Let’s see if we can have anyone pip them to the Easter Egg prizes next week!
One more week before the Easter break, keep up the amazing work!
Head of Year 7: Miss B Marshall
Assistant Head of Year 7: Miss H Barker
It has been great to have Year 8 in for the full week and they have certainly made the most of it. Motivational Monday included an important section on road safety and we urge all parents and carers to remind their children how to cross the road safely, it may seem like a basic message however with the busy roads are around school, it is so important. Tuesday's assembly from Mr Garner covered the invacuation procedures which was followed up with a practice drill on Thursday morning, all students responded well and the year team are confident all students would know what to do if there was ever an incident that required the alarm. Well Being Wednesday discussed how to take notice of each other and make others feel valued. Class reading continued Thursday and those tutor sets who have completed In the Sea There Are Crocodiles moved onto a reading pack with lots of short extracts to read and discuss. Fab Friday as always celebrated attendance and students that have been amazing in tutor time.
In sport the Year 8 rugby boys travelled to Newark Rugby Club this week for a full contact tournament. The team played exceptionally well showing a high level of skill and determination which resulted in them winning the tournament. This is an amazing achievement for players who don't play together in school but brought their club skills and ethos into the fixtures as an 'allstars' team. The boys B team football squad played in a 7 a side tournament at South Notts Academy on Thursday, we entered 2 teams who both played some great football. The tournament was based around participation and each team only lost 1 game throughout the entire event, when the teams had to play each other a hard-fought draw was a fair result.
Below showcases some excellent work from Emily J, Harry C and Phoebe G from their Design and Technology lesson.

Well done Year 9 for a fantastic week. This week Year 9 students have achieved 3099 positive points, fantastic work! During our Assembly on Wednesday we enjoyed sharing examples of the fantastic work we have seen in lessons and it’s great to see students showing determination with their classwork. In English, we have been pleased to see the level of detail in the annotations in the Anthology (see photos). Students were also unpicking key themes and language in English, which is reflected in the details in their written work. In Science, students have enjoyed completing a practical experiment where they measured the speed of sound. Students clapped and timed the echo from the wall of the science block.
On Wednesday morning, all Year 9 students were given the opportunity to listen to an assembly, delivered by the Royal Navy. Students were able to understand the roles in this career and the range of skills developed in a career in the Royal Navy. A group of students also worked with the Royal Navy where they built ‘rockets’ and tested them on the school field! On Thursday, 15 Year 9 students enjoyed a careers trip to the University of Nottingham. Information was shared on a range of careers and pathways. Students enjoyed the trip and thank you to the Mrs Farmer for providing this opportunity to our students. There will be more careers opportunities as we move into Key Stage 4.
On Friday we celebrated student achievements this week through our Fab Friday assembly. Well done to the following students who were recognised this week:
100% attendance prize draw:
Positive behaviour points:
We are continuing to see students achieving the Bronze, Siler and Gold awards. Well done to the students who achieved an award this week:
Bronze (400 positive points):
Silver Award (600 points):
Gold Award (800 points):
Finally, well done to the Year 9 Girls Football Team who were involved in a competitive fixture against West Bridgford School on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, the game finished with a 1-0 loss but the girls should be proud of how well they represented school. Well done to all students who have been involved in the Football fixtures this year.
Next week we are looking forward to celebrating students achievements this half term, through our half term Achievement Assembly. Well done Year 9, keep up the great work.
Head of Year 9: Miss I Sheldon
Assistant Head of Year 9: Miss A Lloyd
It was wonderful to see many of our Year 10 families at our Information Evening this week with sessions focused on how to support your child in Year 10, Careers and Work Experience and how we support student wellbeing and recognise their success at Toot Hill. For those unable to make it, further information will be distributed via email. For specific questions about work experience please contact your child's tutor or Mrs Farmer at ffarmer@toothillschool.co.uk.
Please be mindful that Year 10 Parents Evening takes place after Easter and will take place at school with face-to-face appointments. Further information to come regarding booking appointments with teaching staff.
39 Year 10 Sociology students visited Sudbury Hall Museum of Childhood on Tuesday to complete several workshops reflecting on the history of education, gender role and the gendering of toys and the media. All students engaged whole-heartedly with the activities on offer and represented themselves and the school extremely well. We look forward to connecting their learning from this trip with their learning in the classroom.
We are excited for the Mock Interview Day next Wednesday 29th March and look forward to sharing stories and photographs with you in next week's bulletin. Please see your child's letter (distributed on Tuesday) to find out more about the plans for the day and how your child needs to prepare.

Assistant Head of Year 10: Miss C Thomas
As we approach the Easter break, and the final weeks before the start of GCSE exams on 15th May 2023, we have been working with our Year 11 students and parents to ensure that all stakeholders are fully informed about the examinations process.
There was an excellent turnout at our Parent's Information Evening on Thursday evening, where key exams, revision, English, Maths, and Science information was shared. For parents that were unable to attend, we will be distributing the information packs to you via students next week. Within these packs, there is information on how to support your child from now, until September 2023 when they start their Post-16 destinations. Please contact your child's tutor of Mr Wickens if you have any questions about the information in the pack.
This morning, we have distributed personalised exam timetables to students so they can effectively plan their revision from now, as well as their schedule throughout the GCSE exams. Please contact Mr Wickens if you have any questions about the exam timetable or notice anything we may need to have a look at.
Over the Easter holidays, we are running a range of revision sessions for Year 11 students to access. It will be great to see as many Year 11 students engaging in these additional opportunities.
Next week, we will have an assembly delivered by the CAMHS Mental Health Support Team on exam stress and sharing with students coping mechanisms to manage exam stress. From this, students will be able to meet with a Mental Health Support Practitioner at break/lunch to book themselves onto an exam stress workshop after the Easter Holidays.
Head of Year 11: Miss L Hughes
