Weekly Bulletin

~ 21st January 2022 ~

  • School begins at 8.25am, please can you ensure students are in school for this time.
  • From Thursday 27 January, students will no longer be required to wear masks in school, unless they prefer to do so.

Year 7 have started back exceptionally well despite the cold weather.  This week they had a UK Parliament Assembly by Malcolm Smith.  They were asked what they liked about the community where they lived and gave great answers including: -Countryside, restaurants, shops, peaceful, low crime rate, kind and supportive community. What would they like to change: -Road safety in Bingham, they want a McDonalds! Too many houses, rising heating costs, litter.  The students made a wonderful impression on the guest speaker and seemed very well-informed regarding politics.

Extended study started this week and Year 7s already have a good attendance level across the subjects on offer, please encourage your child to try something new or get involved with something they enjoy as we feel the extended study programme is of huge benefit to students that attend.

In RSHE lessons next week, Year 7 students will discuss puberty.

Welcome back to our Year 8 students! We have been really pleased with the start that our Year 8 students have made to 2022! Students have settled back into lessons well and we have been impressed to see so many students being recognised with our Star of the Lesson’ award. In English students have been studying ‘The Tempest’ and have been focusing on the meaning behind the title and language used.

In tutor set, as part of our Personal Development Curriculum students have been covering a range of topics. Our theme for Wellbeing Wednesday this half term is ‘Keep Learning’. As part of our Topical Thursday we are covering RSE and with this week focussing on ‘healthy relationships’. We were impressed with the maturity shown by students on Thursday morning when discussing a scenario and sharing ideas on how they could support a friend. This half term, on Friday, we are covering Careers and every student will complete a careers booklet (see photo). This week students covered ‘transferable skills’ and how these skills are useful in school and also in future employment.

This week Year 8 students have achieved 3510 positive points, a fantastic start to the term, well done and keep up the fantastic work!  Tutors are also continuing to recognise students' achievements through our weekly ‘Star of the Week’ award which is given out in tutor set on Friday morning.

In RSHE lessons next week, Year 8 students will develop their understanding of trustworthy sources of information.

This week saw another very busy schedule for Year 11. On Wednesday 19 January, we enjoyed an incredibly insightful Careers Fair. It was wonderful for students and parents to meet providers and talk about the wide range of destinations available to young people. Students were able to ask questions about universities, apprenticeships, and enquire about opportunities within the navy, police force, to name a few. Both myself and Miss Gordon were very proud to see the year group interacting with the multitude of visitors whilst thinking about their own future plans.

Thursday 20 January was our first Parents Evening of the year. Again, students used the opportunity to best prepare themselves for their next steps as they continue their GCSE journey. Finally, Friday 21 January was our MOCKS results day. Year 11 continue to take this in their stride and will no doubt use these key experiences to best prepare themselves for their upcoming exams. A huge well done!

On Sunday 23 January at 12pm, Newark Girls Rugby Club are running a RFU led Inner Warrior event. The idea is to encourage girls to play rugby.

Girls rugby is a fast growing sport and  encourages team work, values and fitness. Over the years we have seen girls turn up nervous and anxious to their first session, but within a few weeks change to confident and outgoing. Rugby is just a wonderful sport.
