Year 7 have been thoroughly enjoying the sunshine this week during their break and lunchtimes apart from the downpour on Tuesday! It is great to see the passion that goes into lunchtime football on the field with a huge number of students participating in the lunch time fun. Miss Marshall and I have been having some lovely conversations with students about their summer plans and all the activities they are getting up in the evenings.
This week was the London Hockey trip where we saw lots of Year 7s attending this great opportunity to go and watch England Men's and England Women's Hockey teams compete in the National Pro League. This took place at the Olympic Park where we were lucky enough to get some pictures by the Olympic Rings. A big shout out to all of Year 7 on the trip who were excellent at representing Toot Hill School Standards on a sunny day out. Some of the students got the chance to take selfies with the England Hockey Team and got their hockey sticks signed! There were a few tired faces Thursday morning as it was late trip back, getting back to school at midnight so well done to those students powering through!
It is the last few of weeks of enrichment so it would be amazing to see even more Year 7s attending these sessions, especially in PE as the weather is lovely! There are enrichment timetables in the Head of Year Office if students need to pick one up.
Finally, as mentioned last week, a Year 7 STEM trip will go to the National Space Centre in Leicester on Wednesday 19th July. There are only 57 student places available, and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If students are interested, then they can ask their tutor for more details and letters can be collected from their DT or Maths teacher. It is a fantastic opportunity and we really hope lots of Year 7s get involved!
Head of Year 7: Miss B Marshall
Assistant Head of Year 7: Miss O Gale
The Year 8 pastoral team and Miss Graham are really proud of the students that have visited primary schools this week as foreign languages ambassadors. Students have led sessions and mentored younger students building great relationships and representing Toot Hill fantastically well.
Mrs Farmer has launched the Young Generation leaders programme this week and we look forward to following the Year 8 students on their leadership journey.
The Year 8 boys unfortunately lost the South Notts Football cup final this week. The boys played extremely well however luck was against us as they lost 3-1 to West Bridgford. Thanks to all parents and students for coming along to support.
Walesby is fast approaching hopefully updates will be out soon.
Please can you remind all students to wear ties and must come in school shoes every day.
Head of Year 8: Mr D Mordue
Assistant Head of Year 8: Miss L Jordan
Well done Year 9, another 2413 Positive Points achieved this week. Students have continued to complete assessments this week. We have been pleased with students’ attitude to learning when completing their assessments. Students have also started to reflect on completed assessments and have been using purple pen to complete development tasks. In Science this week, students have enjoyed completing practical tasks, including an experiment which investigated the rate of reaction. In Maths, students tested their knowledge on Pythagoras by completing a range of challenging questions. Well done Year 9!
Last week, we saw our first Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award students complete their expedition. We were really proud of how well students represented the school and they should all be very proud of themselves. The feedback we received was excellent and students showed resilience, determination and teamwork throughout the weekend. Well done to all students involved!
During tutor set this week, students have received their positive point and attendance data. Every student has been given an ‘attendance target’ to achieve by the end of Year 9. We have also shared information on the importance of attendance and the support available to remove any barriers to attendance. We encourage students and parents/carers to speak to Form Tutors if there is anything we can do to support with attendance.
On Friday morning, we celebrated the achievements from this week. We were pleased to see so many students recognised this week. Well done to the following students who received an award this week:
100% Attendance Prize Draw:
Positive Points:
Bronze Award (400 Points):
Silver Award (600 Points):
Gold award (800 Points)
Finally, good luck to the students who are completing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award this weekend!
Well done Year 9, another great week.
Head of Year 9: Miss I Sheldon
This week it has been brilliant to see our Year 10 students rise to the occasion of their end of year assessments. Their response to our revision sessions during tutor time, their entry to classrooms and venues and focus during the assessments themselves has been outstanding. We are encouraging our students to start each day afresh, even if they feel an assessment has gone 'badly' but we have had a few students who have lacked the right equipment so please support your child in ensuring they have calculators, protractors and rulers.
On Thursday we had our first Geography field trip to Skegness. Over 100 Year 10 Geographers were coached over to the east coast to complete fieldwork and data collection to support them with their preparations for their GCSE Paper 3. Many students represented themselves well within the local community as well as with their supporting staff. We look forward to a second successful trip on Tuesday. Fingers crossed for sunshine again!
Finally, we have launched our Year 11 Prefect application process this week. I delivered an assembly about the critical part student voice plays in our school and being part of the Prefect team allows them to take leadership on that within the school. With so many incredible students within the year group, I look forward to reading their application letters and being part of the interview panel. All information has been emailed directly to students but has the following correction: the application deadline is now Friday 30th June.
Head of Year 10: Mrs L Munro
Assistant Head of Year 10: Miss C Thomas
Year 10 Achievement Coordinator: Miss A Burman
Year 11
As our exams have now drawn to a close we have had a fantastic time celebrating with Year 11 on Friday!
The students were phenomenal and it was so lovely to see so many smiling faces.
We can't wait to see everyone at prom and we ask that if you have not yet done so, you complete your parent form so we have all of the information we need for the evening.
Amazing photo taken by Thomas T as he flew over the school!
Head of Year 11: Miss L Hughes

News - An expedition report from Year 9 Bronze DofE participant Ollie A
The DofE training expedition was really good because it was a mix of walking and safety training. We got told how to set up our tents, use the stove and look after ourselves. Then came the day of the DofE qualifying expedition! All the Year 9s had big rucksacks full of their equipment. Our instructors did a kit check and then we were ready to go! It was a tough walk in the heat! When we arrived at the campsite, we set our tents up and relaxed for a bit until more teachers arrived. As some of them were unsure how to set up a tent, we had to help them. I think we did 5 or 6 tents! We had food and played some games, then we went to bed. We got up the next day, cooked breakfast, packed away our tents and walked back to school. It was easier than the day before, but it rained just before we got back! We made our presentation to our leader and went home with our expedition successfully completed. The good parts were eating, sleeping and realizing we were almost back! The bad parts were the rain and being woke at 6AM!

All students in Year 10 and 12 are expected to do work experience in July. We are finding it increasingly challenging finding opportunities for our students and I would be grateful if parents/carers could ask their places of work if they would be willing to take a student on work experience for the week. If anyone is interested, we will ask the students to send their CV to them and if relevant attend an interview/induction. All employers must have Employers Liability Insurance. There may also be places in the community where you live who may take a student on work experience too. This is a valuable opportunity for our young people, it helps them develop their transferable skills, develops their independence and they find out what the working world is like before their transition to apprenticeships, FE Colleges, Sixth Form, University or employment. This is a great opportunity for our young people which they thoroughly enjoy.
If you can help us to get the word out to employers, it would be really appreciated. If you know of anyone who is interested please ask them to contact me ffarmer@toothillschool.co.uk
