The year group photo has arrived and students have been given a sample so they can place orders if parents wish to buy a copy.  We have a full size original in the year office that students can pop and see if they wish to look at the actual full-size photograph before you purchase.

In tutor time we had an assembly on mental health and well-being which included places that students can find support, Miss Jordan put some of this information on the Year 7 Teams area.  Students should also have a working knowledge of their attendance and credits figures which we use as part of our motivation from their tutors.

The boys football cup final will be held Friday 20 May at West Bridgford FC with a 4pm kick off.  All parents are welcome to come and support.  Well done to those students in the dodgeball competition at East Leake and the athletics team at Newark YMCA, we are exceptionally proud of how Year 7 represent school.

In RSHE lessons next week, Year 7 students will develop their understanding of Female Genital Mutilation.

Head of Year 7: Mr D Mordue     Assistant Head of Year 7:  Miss L Jordan

This week Year 8 students have achieved 2921 positive points. Students continue to impress their class teachers with their hard work and positive attitude to learning. In History, students have also produced excellent Home Learning work. Students have been studying World War 1 and it is great to see showing independence and responsibility for their home learning work. When visiting lessons this week, it has been fantastic to see students working hard and taking pride in their work. The Technology department have been pleased with the attitude shown by Year 8 students this week. In Food Technology, students completed a practical task, where they applied their skills, whilst following a recipe to make chilli con carne. In Graphics students showed great focus when working in FIT time. Students have been focused on one dimensional drawing, where they worked independently, taking time with the fine details of their drawings. Students have also been finalising their designs for their lamps and we look forward to seeing students making their lamps over the next few weeks. It has also been great to visit English lessons this week. Students have been studying ‘Animal Farm’. It was fantastic to hear so many students reading aloud in English lessons and students have been working hard to understand different characters and unpick some of the more complex vocabulary in the text. We continue to share examples of excellent work on our Year 8 Twitter Account (@TootHill2025)

On Thursday morning it was great to see the year group together in our Year 8 Assembly. We spent time praising students for their hard work this week. This week our Assembly focused on Mental Health and as part of Mental health Awareness Week we have been focussing on ‘self care’. We have discussed the importance of looking after our mental wellbeing and we have discussed what we can do to support our own mental health. Our Wellbeing Wednesday discussion was focused on sleep and why getting enough sleep is important to our mental wellbeing.

Well done to all of our Year 8 students who have represented school in sports fixtures this week. Three of our Year 8 girls had the opportunity to play up a year group and be part of the Year 9 Football Final this week. Well done to those students who supported the Year 9 team with their win. We’ve also been pleased to see so many Year 8 students involved in the athletics fixture on Thursday. Well done!

As the weather continues to improve, we have also reminded students to bring a water bottle to school with them. Students have access to refill water bottles in school and we have advised students to bring a water bottle to school, especially when the weather is warmer.

Well done Year 8. Another great week. Keep up the excellent work!

Another excellent week Year 8, keep up the great work!

In RSHE lessons next week, Year 8 students will develop their understanding of First Aid.

Year 8: Miss I Sheldon

We were absolutely thrilled to hear that the Year 9 girls football team reached another cup final - this time the Nottinghamshire County Cup Football Final. This is a fantastic achievement in itself and we are thrilled to share that we won an impressive 4-1. We felt privileged to attend on Thursday evening and witness such dominance from the beginning. Harriet M was impressive in stepping up to replace our injured goal keeper and both Jessica and Grace scored two strong goals each. Mia, Phoebe, Alicia, Scarlett, Maisy, Verity, Sally and Amelia made up the rest of the team. We are very thankful to Miss Gordon, Miss Hall and the PE staff who have supported and guided them this far. Well done girls!

In other news, Year 9s have been thoroughly enjoying the Topical Thursday sessions in tutor set, with this half term focused on learning about major world religions. Thank you to Ms Docherty for these interesting and informative resources. Miss Hughes' group were exploring what they knew already about Hinduism through the use of mini-whiteboards, whilst Mrs Bailey's group were exploring not only the history of Hinduism but also their literacy skills through reading aloud. This will link in well with Year 9's current Religion, Philosophy and Ethics lessons where they are exploring the big question of 'death; is it the end?'

In RSHE lessons next week, Year 9 students will develop their understanding of First Aid.

Head of Year 9: Mrs L Munro     Assistant Head of Year 9: Miss C Thomas

A busy week. Our BTEC Sport students visited the Sports Science laboratories at Hull University this week. They had an opportunity to view the outstanding facilities, as well as making protein balls. The journey to Hull was a great experience for the students too, as they travelled the journey by train. A great day.

Yesterday, 24 of our aspiring Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) students participated in 3 'Think Big' STEM workshops throughout the morning run by Nottingham Forest FC. They fully immersed themselves in all the challenging workshops to gain further insight into a career in STEM. Two fantastic enrichment opportunities that our Year 10 students can be participating in.

A reminder that all students need to secure a Work Experience placement that runs from week beginning Monday 18 July 2022. We will be meeting with all students who are yet to secure a placement over the next 3 weeks. Please email Mrs Farmer (ffarmer@toothillschool.co.uk) if you have any questions.

Year 10 Internal Assessments start week beginning Monday 20 June 2022 for two weeks. Teachers will be starting to provide revision materials for the students over the next few weeks to support their revision in preparation for the assessments. Students were provided with a printed copy of the Extended Study timetable this week - we are advising all students to aim to attend at least one Extended Study club a week.

Head of Year 10: Mr R Wickens   Achievement Coordinator: Mrs C Hallam

As we conclude the final week before exams it has been fantastic to see student’s engagement and motivation continue to grow inside and outside of lessons. Students have been provided with up to date exam timetables, exam venues as well as warm up timetables to ensure they are equipped for the exam season.

It was wonderful to see students at shirt signing making precious memories with their friends as they celebrate the end of 5 years at Toot Hill. We are very excited for celebration day, tutor set videos and results day in the coming months.

As always it is important to mention the value of wellbeing during exam season, ensuring you take breaks between revision, update their revision timetable and continue to talk to staff, parents and friends throughout the next few months.

Miss Marshall and Miss Gordon would like to congratulate you on your hard work and resilience this this year, you really have been fantastic. We wish you the best of luck for your exams in the coming weeks.

This week the DofE Reporters, Jessica H and Lucy W, both of 10:10. have been out and about interviewing students from Year 9 who are busy working on their Bronze DofE Award.  In the first of several interviews, here are the responses Jessica and Lucy received when they interviewed Lucy A of 9.8.  Thank you all for your time and well done!

Why did you decide to do bronze DofE?

I decided to do my bronze DofE as it will help with my CV which will further help with College and Uni.

Which activities have you chosen to do?

For volunteering I am helping at my netball club with the younger teams. For physical I am doing netball, and for skill I am doing baking.

How prepared are you for your expedition?

I am well prepared; I have suitable equipment and the right clothes.

Why would you recommend DofE to a year 8 student?

I would recommend DofE to a Year 8 as you can have lots of fun with your friends and it’s great to put on your CV.

If you could describe DofE in one word, what would it be?

Exciting
