Weekly Bulletin

~ 15th July 2022 ~

  • As part of our Parent Voice programme, we are keen for parents/carers to share their views on a range of aspects of school life.  Please complete the questionnaire attached.  There is still time for forms to be completed. The deadline is today. Parent/Carer Online Survey

  • There will be no Extended Study next week for all Year Groups.

  • As we are expecting a heatwave next Monday and Tuesday, to support the safety of our students during these two days:

-Students will not have to wear ties and can open their top button on shirts

-Students will not have to wear blazers

-We advise students to wear sun cream if walking to and from school, or going on to the school field at lunchtime

-Sunhats may be worn outside of lessons

-Students should continue to bring in large water bottles so they can stay hydrated throughout the day

-We will schedule room changes where possible so our coolest classrooms are used throughout the day

  • Please encourage students to bring their own water bottles to school, especially as the weather starts to get warmer.

Year 7 have been really busy during tutor period this week preparing for Inter Tutor Set Sports Day and the traditional Sports Day activities.  Mr Mordue has delivered a couple of key assemblies with information and encouragement so we have as much participation as possible as well as a real sense of excitement around the events.  As always, the good old British weather may affect how things run so please check communications from school in case the organisation changes.

As term comes to an end there will not be any Extended Study sessions in the final week of term however it was really nice to see the Year 7 rounders team compete in the Rushcliffe Partnership Tournament to finish the sporting calendar of fixtures.  Mr Seymour would also like to pass on how proud he is of all Year 7s involved in the concert after school, all performers were amazing!

The Achievement Assembly was fantastic on Friday afternoon.  Miss Jordan organised a wonderful celebration and more students than ever were recognised for their achievements.

Please continue to send student into school with water bottles as the weather is forecast to be warm again next week.

Head of Year 7: Mr D Mordue     Assistant Head of Year 7:  Miss L Jordan

Well done Year 8, another fantastic week. Students are continuing to work hard in lessons and also achieve credits for good manners and high-quality home learning. Our Star of the Lesson award is regularly received and we have enjoyed celebrating students’ achievements in our end of term Achievement Assembly this week.

This week, during tutor set, students have spent time discussing their plans for the summer during Wellbeing Wednesday. We have also spent time in tutor sets organising teams for our inter-tutor set sport competition and Sports Day events next week. Students can choose to participate in Netball, Football or Rounders for inter-tutor set sport. On Sports Day, we have running, throwing and jumping events, along with our ‘astro olympics’ for students to be involved in. We are encouraging all students to be involved in an event and it’s great so see so many students who are keen to participate.

We were so pleased to present many awards during our end of year Achievement Assembly on Friday morning. We recognised students for their attendance this school year, behaviour points and tutor nominations. Well done all students who have achieved 100% or ‘excellent’ attendance this year, a fantastic achievement! Well done to Joshua (8.10) who was first place for credits with 148 positive points. Lewis (8.5) was in second place with 135 positive points and Owen (8.5) was in third place with 133 positive points. Well done! Adam (8.8) has received the most Star of the Lesson awards this half term (9 Star of Lesson) well done!

We also used data from the 8.3 Reports and we are very proud of the Attitude to Learning and Home Learning scores on the reports. As a year group our average Attitude to Learning score was 4.59 which shows the hard work and positive attitude to learning shown by the year group. All students have contributed to this score and should be proud of this, well done! The number of students who achieved an average Attitude to Learning score of 5+ has doubled since March which is excellent! You will be able to view your child’s report next week. If you do have any questions about the report, please contact your Childs tutor. Our celebrations will continue during tutor set next week, where we will celebrate our half term attendance, tutor set credits and our end of term achievement video. We are so proud of what our Year 8 students have achieved this year and it’s great to be able to celebrate so many achievements with the students. Well done Year 8.

As the warm weather is due to continue into next week we are encouraging students to bring a water bottle to school and take care in the sun. Please can you remind your child to bring a water bottle to school each day.

Finally, well done to Fraser (8.8) who recently competed in the GB U16 Ball Hockey team at the Alpa European Cup in Pardubice, Czechia. This was a fantastic opportunity for Fraser and he left the tournament as one of the top goal scorers in his team. Well done Fraser, a fantastic achievement!

Well done Year 8, another fantastic week. Keep up the excellent work!

Head of Year 9: Mrs L Munro     Assistant Head of Year 9: Miss C Thomas

A huge well done to Year 10 as they have completed their final week before work experience! It has been a busy week for all, with two geography trips to Skegness, art exams, interview day and our stem trip to John Deere.

As Year 10 draws to a close for our year group we want to say a huge thank you to all our students for their efforts. As they move into work experience next week we know that they will make us very proud. For students on work experience visits they will have taken home packs they must complete. Please take the time to look at these with them over the weekend. For the students remaining in school we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Head of Year 10: Miss L Hughes

LL Awards Evening:

On Tuesday 12th July the LL held its annual Awards Evening hosted by myself and Miss Jones (who returned specially for the event). We also invited Tamsin Winter to give the awards to students and she then did a talk about becoming an author and her books.

It was a fabulous evening, a huge turnout of parents and students. What an end to a brilliant year of LL activities and events!

Ms Marris

Some music to celebrate.

Five of our students were involved with the NYO this past weekend in the Jazz Orchestra, Training Orchestra, Intermediate Orchestra and the Nottingham Youth Orchestra itself. Max, Isabel, Collin, Chloe and Clarice performed wonderfully in the summer concert that sees the end to a fantastic year of music making in the city. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students who play orchestral instruments or who are interest in Jazz.

If any student is interested in joining NYO, please do get in touch with either NYO directly or myself so that more of our Toot Hill students can get involved with this fantastic set up.

Similarly, we are starting up a joint orchestra with The West Bridgford School in September and are looking for any String players grade 3 and above. If you are interested, please contact me as we begin this new venture. Our other ensembles; Big Band, Choir, Rock Band, Flute Ensemble, String Group, Trumpet Group all performed wonderfully at our Summer Concert on Monday 11th July along with some outstanding solo performances and these will all continue in September. Again, if you have any questions about these ensembles, please get in touch.

Have a lovely summer.

Mr Seymour

Today the Year 10 Silver cohort have set out to Derbyshire on their Practice Expedition.  They will be developing their navigation, map reading and campcraft skills under the watchful eyes of qualified instructors from Wayahead Training.

Today also saw the first bronze DofE graduation take place and huge comigrations go to Alfie E, Molly B, Fraser B, Annabelle E, Ben F, Freya J, Thomas J, Chloe N, Elizabeth R and Bret RY who have finished already!

Year 9s who have not yet finished should not worry - there will be another opportunity to graduate in early September which means they will be ready to start Silver if they wish.  Silver DofE will be launched for the new Year 10s in late September.

Can I please remind all participants and parents that both paper or electronic assessor reports are fine, but please remember to make sure all sections are complete and that the dates are as per eDofE. Assessor reports may be rejected if they are not complete.
