  • This is the last week of Extended Study until after the summer break, please encourage your child to attend some sessions.
  • Please encourage students to bring their own water bottles to school, especially as the weather starts to get warmer.

Last week, during tutor time Year 7 have enjoyed hearing about Sports Day. The engagement and excitement from students have been fantastic. Tutors helped students allocate responsibilities for the day as well as encouraging all to take part. As it stands, every single student in Year 7 will be signed up for an event next Friday. This will be our first Sports Day as a year group and we can't wait to make more memories. Students are already predicting who is the fastest sprinter, longest jumper, and funniest crowd entertainer!

As well as Sports Day, we have Inter-tutor set competitions running. All students will take part but this time they are able to pick between football, netball and rounders. This will give students a further opportunity to build morale with their tutor set and spend some additional time with their tutor before the summer holiday. Year 7 are always very competitive with positive points so we have no doubt that they'll have the same enthusiasm on the sporting field.

Despite only having three school days this week due to strike days, students have worked hard in lessons with many receiving end of year results following recent assessments. With only two weeks left before the summer holidays, we want to say how impressed we are with the continued positive attitude from year 7. Keep it up!

Head of Year 7: Miss B Marshall

Assistant Head of Year 7:  Miss O Gale

The school show at the end of June was phenomenal!!  It was lovely to go and watch students perform and the Year 8s were especially brilliant.  There is definitely some talented musicians, performers and backstage crew that we will be looking out for in future performances, and we hope many more will get involved.  The whole experience is a wonderful way for students to build a whole variety of skills and make friendships with students across all year groups.

Mr Mordue held an assembly on last Tuesday on character.  Using the Lewis Capaldi performance at Glastonbury as a basis for discussion he explained that our students should also help others going through difficult times.  Be kind, be supportive and show empathy so that people feel supported.

On Thursday tutors began working with their forms to pick the sports day teams, we would love to see as many Year 8s involved as possible.

The Walesby trip is gathering momentum.  All students attending met to choose their tents in a very mature and orderly fashion. Special thanks to Mr Tinsley and Mr Frater for helping.

Head of Year 8: Mr D Mordue

Assistant Head of Year 8:  Miss L Jordan

Well done Year 9, another 1628 positive points achieved last week! Year 9 students are continuing to work hard in lessons. Students have continued to show confidence and determination when completing their speeches in English. It has been great to see high levels of focus from students and they have worked hard, in both writing and presenting their work. In Maths students have completed a range of challenges to calculate the missing side of a right-angled triangle. Students were able to share their workings out using the SOH CAH TOA calculations. It was also fantastic to see the work which has been produced in Design and Technology. Students have worked hard this half term and it was good to received positive feedback from class teachers! Well done Year 9!

During tutor set this week, we have spent time ensuring students are ready to learn with the correct equipment and uniform. Thank you to parents and carers for your support in ensuring students are arriving to school, ready to learn. We also spent time this week discussing wellbeing and reading as a tutor group. This week, students will work in tutor groups to decide who will represent the tutor group for sports day events. Students will also get the opportunity to choose which sport they will compete in for Inter Tutor Set Sport.

Due to Year 9 students not being in school on Friday, we didn’t have our usual Fab Friday Assembly. We will share the names of students who achieved whole school awards, next week. Well done to the following students who were in the top 3 students in Year 9 for positive points this week:

  • Adam 9.8 – 46 Points
  • Jake 9.8 – 41 Points
  • Evan 9.8 – 36 Points
  • Cody 9.8 – 36 Points

Finally, thank you to the Year 9 students who supported the Year 6/7 transition days last week. We are pleased with how well you represented the school and thank you for the support you provided to our new Year 7 students.

Well done Year 9, keep up the great work!

Assistant Head of Year 9: Miss A Lloyd

With the assessment fortnight over and end of the academic year and work experience week quickly approaching, Year 10 have retained their focus and commitment to their studies to make the most of the term before becoming 'top of the school' in September. They will be receiving feedback in their lessons over the next week and we will be sharing their final Progress Report with you in the final week of term.

It was fantastic to see the year group represented in the school show, 'We Will Rock You' with incredible performances from Isabelle D, Erin G, Neave C and Evie, and Ruby C as part of the band and Niamh O'B helping with costume. I had the pleasure of watching the performance with my young family and they were just as rapt as the rest of the audience with the quality of the performances. We can't wait for the next one!

60 of our students completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition this week in challenging conditions: three days of walking, two nights of camping and they endured everything from blistering sunshine to very heavy downpours. We look forward to celebrating the completion of all sections of their awards in our upcoming Achievement Assemblies.

Finally, we have our Year 11 Prefect interviews on Monday; with so many applicants we are dedicating a full day to hear their ideas about ways to improve a particular area of school (Quality of Education, Safeguarding, Behaviour and Attitudes, the Personal Development Curriculum and the school, local and wider community). We wish all those invited to interview the best of luck and look forward to sharing with you the successful applicants next Friday!

Year 10 Achievement Coordinator: Miss A Burman

In our final bulletin, we would like to thank everybody for providing so much support for our Year 11s over the last five years.

What a journey has been and we were lucky enough to celebrate with prom last week. Everybody at prom made us so proud as they have done throughout their time at Toot Hill and we could not be more pleased to wish them a happy and restful summer.

We look forward to seeing all of our year group at results day to celebrate their successes with them. In the meantime, if you do have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us or the college team should it relate to their transition into next year. Well done the class of 2023!

All students in Year 10 and 12 are expected to do work experience in July. We are finding it increasingly challenging finding opportunities for our students and I would be grateful if parents/carers could ask their places of work if they would be willing to take a student on work experience for the week. If anyone is interested, we will ask the students to send their CV to them and if relevant attend an interview/induction. All employers must have Employers Liability Insurance.  There may also be places in the community where you live who may take a student on work experience too. This is a valuable opportunity for our young people, it helps them develop their transferable skills, develops their independence and they find out what the working world is like before their transition to apprenticeships, FE Colleges, Sixth Form, University or employment.  This is a great opportunity for our young people which they thoroughly enjoy.

If you can help us to get the word out to employers, it would be really appreciated. If you know of anyone who is interested please ask them to contact me ffarmer@toothillschool.co.uk

Toot Hill's school show closed with a bang to a sold-out auditorium on Friday night. The performance was absolutely stunning and the students' performances brought the audience to tears - and to their feet! The actors, band and backstage team created an electrifying performance that will not be forgotten - we are so PROUD of all of them! Their dedication, creativity, kindness and perspiration made this a show one that will be remembered for years to come.
