What a fantastic week!

Year 7 have gone above and beyond in their extra-curricular activities this week. We have to mention the incredible school production 'We Will Rock You'. Miss Gale watched the show on Wednesday evening and Miss Marshall watched on Thursday and all we have to say is WOW! We were absolutely blown away by the dedication, passion and enthusiasm from all students that were involved. At the beginning of the year, many of the students that took part in the production were incredibly nervous about starting school. Now in June of year 7 we're watching them exude confidence, laugh with their peers and smile the brightest smiles throughout a school production. A very special moment.

The dedication to rehearsals, technical checks, learning lines have all allowed students to have a glimmer of the spotlight. Whether they've taken part for fun or to make new friends, it is clear to see that they all had the very best time. In addition, seeing students watch their friends in the show from the audience reflected how many excellent relationships have been made and how proud they were to be part of Toot Hill school. We just wish we could watch it again next week! A special mention has to go to Henry D-R for his solo in Bohemian Rhapsody - what a highlight! Miss Graham would also like to say a huge well done to Caitlin T, Katelyn L, Eliza L, Natalie Y for their professionalism, quick changes and slick dance moves.

Not only have we had the school production this week but also a very successful fishing trip. Cameron A, Jonah B, Renny C-Sand Harvey B went with Mr Tinsley on Thursday 29th June, and they had the best time. Students were able to showcase their fishing knowledge, work as a team also learn new top tips to improve their techniques in the future. A fantastic day was had by all, and we would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Tinsley for organising a trip which I'm sure many will enjoy in the future.

Well done Year 7!

Head of Year 7: Miss B Marshall

Assistant Head of Year 7:  Miss O Gale

Year 8 have had a very informative assembly from Dr Eardley this week on behaviour and expectations, Year 8s at the moment really need support around their punctuality in the morning and bringing the correct stationary equipment.

Tuesday's assembly was delivered to the whole school from Mrs Munro regarding our school Pride march this Friday.  If Year 8s want to attend they have to respond to an email from Mrs Munro stating that they want to attend as the event is during period 4.  Thursday's reading of extracts is going really well.  Some form classes have really enjoyed the parts of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe that they have read as well as the more modern texts.

Well done to those Year 8's that were part of the Fishing Team this week.  The students had a great day and caught lots of fish whilst improving social skills, a lot of the students had never represented school before and took great pride in their new t-shirts.

Walesby preparations are well under way.  Can all parents please return the medical form by Monday 3rd July.

Year 10 have continued to impress this week during their Year 10 assessments; particularly during their Maths and English assessments that were held in our official examination venues this. Students displayed maturity, excellent listening skills and responsibility during line up and entry. An area we need to work on is being fully equipped for our assessments including having clear pencil cases, protractors and calculators. Any students that have missed their assessments will have an opportunity during mop up sessions next week. The first mop up session will be Tuesday so please ensure that your child is prepared for this. The timetable will be shared on Monday, so students know where to go and when.

Our second trip to Skegness enabled Year 10 geographers to complete their data collection in preparation for GCSE paper 3 in Year 11. Students were exceptional in respect shown to their teachers and the local community - well done! We look forward to our next trip out to Alton Towers on Thursday 13th July. If your child's consent form is still outstanding, please expect email communication from Mrs Munro. No further payments will be accepted at this stage and those not attending the trip, are expected to be in school.

Finally, we look forward to our Toot Hill Pride Parade today (photos to come!) and wish the best of luck to our 60 Year 10 students completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition next week.

All students in Year 10 and 12 are expected to do work experience in July. We are finding it increasingly challenging finding opportunities for our students and I would be grateful if parents/carers could ask their places of work if they would be willing to take a student on work experience for the week. If anyone is interested, we will ask the students to send their CV to them and if relevant attend an interview/induction. All employers must have Employers Liability Insurance.  There may also be places in the community where you live who may take a student on work experience too. This is a valuable opportunity for our young people, it helps them develop their transferable skills, develops their independence and they find out what the working world is like before their transition to apprenticeships, FE Colleges, Sixth Form, University or employment.  This is a great opportunity for our young people which they thoroughly enjoy.

If you can help us to get the word out to employers, it would be really appreciated. If you know of anyone who is interested please ask them to contact me ffarmer@toothillschool.co.uk
