Weekly Bulletin

~ 27th May 2022 ~

  • As part of our Student Voice programme, we are keen for students to share their views on a range of aspects of school life.  We are currently focusing on students' experiences of travelling to school and would appreciate your child completing the questionnaire attached.  The deadline for all forms to be completed is Friday 3 June 2022 https://forms.office.com/r/fJVDpJkkDs

  • Extra sessions are available for Year 11s and 13s during the May half term, please ask students to check their emails for next week’s timetable.

  • Extended Study for Year 11s and Year 13s will be continuing the first week back after the half term break. Please encourage students to check with their subject teachers if and when the classes are running.

  • There will be no Extended Study for Years 7-10 next week. Extended Study will recommence for these Year Groups from Monday 13 June 2022.

  • School will restart for all year groups on Monday 6th June 2022. Have a wonderful and safe half term break.

This week in tutor time Year 7 have had a live video assembly from the Head Teacher outlining our high expectations of students in terms of academic learning and behaviour.  For Well-Being Wednesday students looked at an active lifestyle, Thursday we discussed Elizabeth Moss and her views on Scientology then on Friday students watched Newsround to catch up on topical news from across the world.  Achievement Assembly on Tuesday was once again the highlight of the final week of the half term as so many students had their attendance, effort or kindness rewarded with certificates and treats, well done to all the winners.

The boys football team played tremendously well in the South Notts Cup final last weekend however it was not meant to be and the team ultimately lost a tense penalty shoot-out.  All players represented the school really well and we are so proud of them.  In other sporting news there was a mixed Year 7 and 8 tag rugby session this week and the girls in attendance learnt some new skills and then got to play against other schools in a small sided tournament.  The boys cricket team played their first ever fixture and managed a great win, the team scored 199 runs from their 16 overs with the opposition scoring 136 in reply.

Please can we remind all families to make sure their child has a water bottle in school that they can fill at break and lunch times as the weather gets warmer.  Have a great half term

Head of Year 7: Mr D Mordue     Assistant Head of Year 7:  Miss L Jordan

Well done Year 8, a fantastic end to the half term. Year 8 students have continued to work hard in lessons, achieving 3305 positive points this week. Over the half term, as a year group, we have achieved 21,610 positive points, well done Year 8! This week we have celebrated our half term achievements through our end of term Achievement Assembly. It has been great to recognise so many students in our assembly, with many students receiving more than one award. We have recognised students for positive behaviour points, star of the lesson award, teacher and tutor nominations. We also recognised students who have attended Extended Study sessions this half term.

Our attendance awards on Thursday morning also recognised students for 100% attendance (Year to Date), 100% attendance this half term, excellent attendance and determination to achieve 100% attendance. We have spent time this half term sharing attendance information with students, during tutor set, and it was fantastic to see so many students collecting an attendance award this half term.

Also included in our assembly were teacher and tutor nominations. Students were nominated for excellent classwork, good manners and kindness to others. Tutor nominations included always being polite, with other students nominated for engagement in the Personal Development Curriculum and having perfect uniform and equipment. Some of our teacher nominations are:

  • Always give 110% in lessons, works hard and engages well in practical lessons. She is always kind to others!
  • She is a thoughtful and helpful member of the group. She consistently works hard in her lessons.

Well done to Isabella (8.1) who was first place for positive points this half term, with 166 positive points, Hrydia (8.2) for achieving 156 positive points (2nd Place) and Cassius (8.5) for achieving 148 positive points (3rd Place). Well done Tilly (8.7), Samuel (8.5), Evan (8.8) and Daniel (8.1) for all achieving 8 Star of the Lesson awards this half term! Amy (8.9), Hrydia (8.2), Amy (8.11) and Maisie (8.2) all received three teacher nominations, well done!

Well done to the Year 8 girls who represented school in the Tag Rugby event on Tuesday evening. The students enjoyed taking part in a short coaching session, where they developed their skills, before taking part in competitive games, against other schools.

Finally, thank you to parents/carers for your continued support this half term. We are very proud of the Year 8 students and it is great to be able to visit lessons and see the excellent work students are producing. We hope Year 8 students enjoy the half term break and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday 6 June 2022.

Well done Year 8, have a safe and enjoyable half term break!

Year 8: Miss I Sheldon

We have made it to the final week of half term and have celebrated our student successes in our Achievement Assembly. It is amazing to see that nearly half of our year group have achieved 100% attendance this half term, and that so many students are steadily improving week by week. It really does make a difference.

It has been great to see what our students have been getting up to in the classroom, with Keeson and Ashton producing some excellent work on First Aid and Resuscitation in RSHE. Furthermore, Ms Thomas's History group were exploring routes to India using 3-D models - thanks to Poppy, Emily and their colleague for explaining this to me.

The Year 9 girls football team stormed to victory again this week - achieving the illusive double champion status! This has been a fantastic achievement from the football team this season and we cannot wait to see how they build on their success next year.

We hope our students and their families have a wonderful, restful break and come back refreshed for the final half term of Year 9. There is much to look forward to next half term with inter-tutor set competitions, sports day and end of year celebrations. Please ensure all students are equipped and have their uniform correct for their return on Monday 6 June 2022.

Head of Year 9: Mrs L Munro     Assistant Head of Year 9: Miss C Thomas

Well done to our Year 10 Sports Leaders Academy. This week they attended an event to begin planning a Commonwealth Games event to over 300 Primary School students in July. The girls will be delivering a rugby session to students in Year 3 and 4 from across Rushcliffe.

Many Year 10 students have done incredibly well researching, applying and confirming their work experience placements for week beginning 18 July 2022. However, we still have students who have not submitted their work experience application form to us.

Please speak to your child and encourage them to talk to family, friends, to use the Safety Measures database or visit local shops, cafes and businesses to ask for work experience. The placement does not have to be their dream job or something they wish to pursue as a career, but it is the opportunity to work with adults and have independence outside of school for a week.

You can access the Safety Measures database here: http://safetymeasures.work-experience.co.uk - students can access login information in their work experience on the Year 10 MS Teams page.

You can contact Mrs Farmer if you need any support - ffarmer@toothillschool.co.uk

Today we launched our Year 11 Prefect applications to Year 10 for next year. Students have until Friday 10 June to apply to be a prefect by writing one side of A4 on: Why are you applying to be a Prefect? What personal qualities (link to our PRIDE values) do you have that would make you an excellent role model? Please support and encourage your child to apply over the half term break if they are interested.

Head of Year 10: Mr R Wickens   Achievement Coordinator: Mrs C Hallam

Congratulations Year 11 on another successful week of examinations and learning. We are incredibly proud as a year team to see your approach to revision, Extended Study and lessons as we move through exam season.

As a reminder, please can you make sure students are aware of when their 'warm up' sessions are scheduled to take place to fully take advantage of the remaining hours before your exam.

During tutor set this week the predominant focus has been on up and coming examinations, well-being and future Year 11 plan for the remainder of the year.

We are incredibly proud of how Year 11 have approached the exam season so far, the manner in which they enter exams and how they conduct themselves round school.

We are looking to finalise the Year 11 leavers hoodie over the coming weeks to provide students with the opportunity to purchase a leavers hoodie if this is something they are interested in.

Keep working hard and being amazing!

Year 11 Pastoral Lead: Miss B Marshall       Year 11 Achievement Leader: Miss P Gordon

On Wednesday 25 May 2022, the Learning Lounge invited Darren Bicknell in to do a career talk at lunchtime. Darren is a retired professional cricket player and spoke to students about how he got into cricket, his experience playing professionally, and his recent career in coaching. Students learned a lot about the world of cricket and what it is like to be a sports coach. Want to know more? Listen to the Learning Lounge's podcast with Darren Bicknell.

Today is the deadline for Year 9 Bronze Award participants to make their Qualifying Expedition payment and complete the electronic EV4 medical form. Download a kit list and the expedition letter by clicking on the links.  As it is now four months since the Bronze and Silver DofE launch, all students should already be in the process of, or getting ready to, ask their assessor to write an assessor's report.  You can use an electronic assessors report or an assessor's report card (included in your welcome pack - download a copy here).

Our DofE researchers Jessie H and Lucy W from 10.10 have been out interviewing students, and this week we hear from Year 9 student Lily P.  Also presented is four of her amazing pieces of artwork which Art and Tech teacher Miss Gibbs is assessing.

Why did you decide to do DofE?
Because the expedition looked fun to do with friends and it would look good on my CV.

What activities are you doing?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     For my Volunteering I am helping at my netball club, for my physical I am doing dance, and for my skill, my teacher wanted me to do art as it is a big passion of mine.

How prepared are you for your expedition?                                                                                                                                                                                                              I haven't sorted my food out yet however I have my clothes and equipment ready to go.

Why would you recommend DofE to a Year 8 student?                                                                                                                                                                              The expedition is a great experience and it'll look great on your CV.

What has been your most successful art piece?                                                                                                                                                                                               The acrylic painting of a cow (below).  It was a present for my dad and I felt it was most successful.

Why did you choose to do art for your skill activity?                                                                                                                                                                                           I chose to do art as I enjoy it very much and it is good practice for my GCSE art coursework.
