Year 7 have been super excited this week with the run up to Sports Day on Friday. During tutor time, the Year 7 team have been organising their students with plenty of applicants for the track and field events as well as the Astro Olympics. It has been amazing to see so many Year 7 students want to be involved in Sports Day and if they aren't competing then supporting their friends and peers from the side-lines! Fingers crossed the weather holds up for us, if not it will be postponed to the last Wednesday of term.

Miss Marshall and I have been hearing all about the Year 7 summer plans with lots of holidays to look forward too, spending time with friends and family and having a well-deserved break.

Year 7 should be really proud of themselves this year as it has been such a delight getting to know them all in their first year of Toot Hill School and we look forward to that continuing into Year 8. The final Achievement Assembly will take place on Friday 21st July. It will be a morning of celebrations as we look over all of Year 7s successes over the last term. It will also be a time to reflect on the incredible year they have had.

Just a reminder that the STEM trip is next week on Wednesday 19th of July which is an amazing opportunity for our students to visit the National Space Centre in Leicester!

We hope Year 7s thoroughly enjoy their last week of term with some exciting Dare to Know lessons and Inter-Tutor Set Sport on Thursday 20th July.

This week tutor time has revolved around the Walesby trip and Sports Day 2023!

Students on the trip should all now which tent they are in, which activity group they are in and which bus they will be travelling on.  Obviously, this is a lot to remember so staff on the day will be reminding students so we have a smooth journey and start to the activities on arrival.  Please can parents keep an eye on the weather forecast to help with packing.

Well done to all of those students that have entered an event on sports day, it shows real courage to compete in front of peers, again fingers crossed for the weather.

The Languages department held a wonderful celebration on Thursday lunch time for those students that were language ambassadors in the primary schools, we are so proud of the students involved and hopefully they can go on to support other similar initiatives next academic year.

Well done to the students that acted as sports leaders at Flintham Primary School sports day this week, the teachers at Flintham have sent us some amazing feedback.

Remember all of the students not on Walesby have some great lessons in school to look forward to as we start our 'Dare to Know' week.

Head of Year 8: Mr D Mordue

Well done Year 9, another 3132 positive points achieved this week. Year 9 students have continued to work hard in lessons and we are pleased with the attitude to learning shown by students. In Food Technology, students have enjoyed practical lessons and we are pleased with their finished products! In English, students have continued to present their speech work, showing confidence and resilience when completing this assessment task. In Spanish students have researched Spanish Festivals, such as Las Fallas in Valencia and San Fermin in Pamplona. Students showed high levels of engagement and enjoyed completing this task.

Students have spent time in tutor set this week, preparing for the end of term sporting events. Students have chosen to compete in Sports Day events and Inter Tutor Set teams. It has been great to see so many students keen to be involved and we are looking forward to a competitive morning of Rounders, Football and Netball next Thursday.

Due to Sports Day, we didn’t have our usual Fab Friday Assembly. We will share the names of students who achieved whole school awards, next week, along with our Achievement Assembly winners! Well done to the following students who were in the top 3 students in Year 9 for positive points this week:

  • Samuel 9.5 – 44 positive points
  • Jack 9.5 – 39 positive points
  • George 9.4 – 38 positive points

Finally, we hope the students on the Barcelona Spanish Trip and Manchester Sports Trip have a great time next week. Students who are in school, will be enjoying a range of activities in ‘Dare to Know’ lessons. We are also looking forward to celebrating Year 9 achievements next week through our end of year Achievement Assembly.

Well done Year 9 for another great week.

What a week Year 10 have had! It has been a fantastic final week for our Year 10s who are going on work experience next week. They have been busy receiving feedback for their recent assessments, finishing projects and getting themselves organised for Alton Towers and Sports Day. We also have thirty five students interview for the prestigious position of Year 11 Prefects. This led to some extremely difficult decision-making as their ideas, presentations and the way they conducted themselves during the process was phenomenal. Their personal development was evident in spades and we are looking forward to working with the successful candidates in their role throughout next year. All applicants will receive feedback in September. Names to be revealed shortly once all students have been notified.

We had 260 Year 10 students join us for the celebratory trip to Alton Towers on Thursday and they were an absolute credit to the school and their parents and carers. It was wonderful seeing them having fun and just being 'kids' throughout the day alongside the responsibility of listening well and respecting staff during the trip. The supporting staff were incredible too and as you can see from the photographs; had a great time too! It was a long day (apologies for the 7pm arrival back to school) but a brilliant one and look forward to having the opportunity to organise similar events in Year 11 too.

Good luck to those embarking on their work experience placements next week and we look forward to speaking with each employee to see how they get on. Please get in touch with Mrs Famer (ffarmer@toothillschool.co.uk) or Miss Burman (aburman@toothillschool.co.uk) if you have any worries or queries during the week. We also love to see students in action so please share any photographs too. Those students remaining in school will have a programme of events to follow and look forward to welcoming them in too.
