Weekly Bulletin

~ 22nd July 2022 ~

  • Please read End-of-Year Letter from Dr Eardley emailed earlier today.
  • We wish you and your family a wonderful summer break and look forward to welcoming our students back to school at the start of the new academic year in September.

What a fantastic end to Year 7!  With the extremely hot weather all students have responded really positively and attendance, behaviour and engagement have all remained really high.  During tutor set, tutors have been busy preparing for the sports day and inter tutor set competition whilst Mr Mordue and Dr Eardley also managed to fit in assemblies covering final week expectations, water safety and finishing the year showing your best qualities.

The Sports Day and Celebration Afternoon were without doubt one of the highlights of the year.  The levels of engagement for each event from Year 7 were amazing not to mention some of the superb individual performances including Chloe and James in their respective shot-put events which Mr Mordue was measuring. The support shown for competitors from the Year 7 section of the crowd was also brilliant to see, I am sure students who were competing could hear the cheers and feel the positive vibes from the entire year group.

These positive vibes continued into the afternoon and we were all blown away by the courage and talent of the performers on stage providing the music and singing, including Maizie and Kylia amongst other amazing performances.  It was also a huge surprise how many students lined up to throw wet sponges at Miss Jordan and Mr Mordue however it was first class fun.  Thanks to everyone for a memorable day and we hope you all have an amazing summer.

Well done Year 8, what a fantastic end to the year! Year 8 students have achieved 1058 positive points this week. Overall this year, as a year group we have achieved 134500 positive points. This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection on the hard work of the year group.

This week has been a busy last week of term. We have enjoyed many whole school events, including Sports Day, Celebration Afternoon and Inter-Tutor Set Sport. It has been fantastic to see students getting involved with all three events. We are very proud of how well students represented their tutor sets in Sports Day. Students participated in track events and also throwing and jumping events. We also had lots of students involved in our ‘Astro Olympics’ where students competed in a range of events to achieve points for their tutor group. Our Inter-Tutor set Sport was also positive where students enjoyed participating in Rounders, Netball or Football. Students worked well in their tutor set teams and it was great to see students supporting each other throughout the tournaments.

Our Celebration Afternoon included face painting, inflatable activities, ice cream van, live music and ‘soak the head of year!’. It was an enjoyable afternoon where students enjoyed celebrating a positive year.

During tutor set on Friday morning, students were given their end of year reports. Students should be proud of their work this year and this is reflected in their end of year reports.

I am delighted to share that Miss Lloyd will be joining the year team in September as the Year 9 Achievement Coordinator. We have shared this with the students and we are pleased that Miss Lloyd will be joining the year team in September.

We are very proud of the Year 8 students and their achievements this year. It is great to work with such polite and hardworking young people. I would like to thank Year 8 parents/carers for your continued support this year, it is a team effort and your support has been invaluable. Well done Year 8.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer break and we look forward to welcoming you back in Year 9!

Head of Year 8: Miss I Sheldon

We have had a fantastic final few weeks in Year 9. We have enjoyed many engaging and thoughtful lessons in Maths, Philosophy and Ethics and History with students showcasing the written and oracy skills they have learnt throughout this academic year. We have also been in awe of the resilience and confidence many students have shown during their English-speaking GCSE assessments and end of term performances in Music and Drama; please ask your children to share with you the details of their performances as many were truly amazing.

This week has been full of sporting activities with Year 9's first ever Sports Day on Wednesday 20 July 2022 and Inter-Tutor Set competitions on Thursday 21 July 2022. All Year 9 students (participating and supporting) were a credit to the school and acted as role models to our younger students in their effort and sportsmanship during both activities. It was also rewarding to see our students enjoy their Celebration Afternoon on Wednesday; the wait for an ice cream may have been longer than anticipated, but plenty of students enjoyed the music, games and soaking myself and Miss Thomas with water filled sponges (and the odd bucket!)

We also recognised our students' achievements in their end of year assembly; many received nominations from their teachers and were congratulated on received 4+ and 5+ effort grade scores on their end of year reports. Special mention to Ben P (9.11) and Phoebus C (9.4) for receiving the Head of Year and Assistant Head of Year Awards for their phenomenal effort inside and outside of the classroom. Well done boys!

Finally, we wish all our students, parents and carers a restful and well-deserved break. We look forward to the safe, and full recharged, return of our students into Year 10. Let’s hope the sunshine returns!

A huge well done to Year 10 who have finished this term on a high, by completing their work experience. We have heard nothing but good feedback from employers and couldn't be prouder of the way that they have represented both themselves and their year group.

Alongside this the students that were in school supported Sports Day incredibly well, showings mature attitude and demonstrating that they are excellent role models.

Over the next few weeks, we hope that all our year group have a restful break and get to enjoy their summer, ready to return in September.

We look forward to seeing the year group for their induction day on the Monday 5 September 2022 to join us for their final year.

We also want to say a huge thank you and goodbye to some of our tutors. Miss Ridley, Miss Usher, Miss Thandi, Mrs Millington, Miss Creighton and Miss Fairbrother you have all been wonderful tutors and we are sorry to see you go but thank you for all the hard work you have done with the year group and your tutor.

We also want to say a huge thank you to all our parents and carers that have supported both their students and school over the last academic year we wish you all a wonderful break.

Now that expedition season has finished all Year 9 Bronze and Year 10 Silver studetns should switch their attention to ensuring their eDofE accounts are 100% up to date.  In September, the new Year 10s who have fully completed their Bronze Award will graduate and be eligible to start Silver.  It is therefore very important that all Year 9 students who aspire to complete the Silver Award use the summer break to ensure all bronze assessor reports are accurately uploaded to eDofE.

Please remember that both paper or electronic assessor reports are fine, but please remember to make sure all sections are complete and that the dates are as per eDofE. Assessor reports may be rejected if they are not complete or accurate.

Huge congratulations to all students for their commitment to DofE this year and a special well done to those Year 9s who have completed or nearly completed already.

I hope you all have a great summer break and look forward to seeing lots more students graduate in September.
